Puerto Rico: WaterStep Units

In the humanitarian crisis in Puerto Rico that quickly unfolded in the aftermath of Hurricane Maria, Christ Presbyterian's Mission Advisory Team voted to fund two water purification units through the Louisville-based organization, WaterStep.

WaterStep partnered with the National Puerto Rico Leadership Council Education Fund to install water purification units in all 78 Puerto Rican municipalities. The lack of clean water created an environment for disease and waterborne illnesses. WaterStep’s disaster tested, environmentally sound, life-saving devices provide a safe water supply for drinking. Using a process called electrolysis, each device produces chlorine gas which kills over 99.9% of waterborne pathogens—enough to purify 38,000 liters of water per day.
