Topic: A Man Amazed by Grace: The story behind the writer of the hymn “Amazing Grace.”
John Newton’s last words were: “I am a great sinner and Christ is a great savior.” These words describe Newton’s heart. He was a blaspheming-slave trader who became a beloved pastor, hymn writer and preacher. He was eventually instrumental in abolishing the slave trade in England. His life and letters are charged with the grace of God and have had more impact on me than anything outside the Bible. John Newton truly loved people, places and things to life.
