A Brief History

The Orchestra of Christ Presbyterian Church was started about 10 years ago by Cara Knipp and a handful of promising instrumentalists. Since then, the Orchestra has grown to include all brass, woodwind, string, percussion and rhythm instruments. We play for the worship services on Sunday mornings at Christ Pres 1 or 2 times per month. The CPC Orchestra is a vital part of all seasonal musicals with the Worship Choir and performs 1-2 instrumental concerts per year at CPC and in our community. As you may or may not know, Christ Presbyterian Church is known for an eclectic mixture of musical styles. The Orchestra may play in the classical symphonic styles of Beethoven/Mozart/Handel or more of a traditional big ballad church style of Camp Kirkland, Lari Goss or Bradley Knight. There are even times at our concerts where we play in the jazz band styles of Duke Ellington or Count Basie. “Variety” is the definitely the best way to describe our musical repertoire at CPC.

Information about becoming a CPC Orchestra member:

The CPC Orchestra has instrumentalists with musical abilities from the High School level all the way to semi-pro as well as professional musicians. Many of our members who played instruments in their younger years and then gave it up have once again found an enjoyment and outlet for their musical talents by playing in the CPC Orchestra. We are always looking for and needing new instrumentalists to play in our Orchestra. If you have the ability to read music, have a 10th grade level of musical experience or greater and have your own musical instrument, WE NEED YOU!!!

If you have a desire to play in the CPC Orchestra and can say “yes” to all of “the above,” please contact me at 301-3669 or cfischer@christpres.org to set up a brief meeting where I can get to know you, learn what instrument(s) you play, and encourage you before you come to rehearsal for the first time. The Orchestra rehearses every Wednesday night form 6:30-8:00 PM in the sanctuary. If needed, rehearsals may go to 8:30 PM during the weeks leading up to a seasonal musical or concert. Sunday morning rehearsals on Orchestra Sundays are from 7:15-8:40 AM. Dress is either “black and white” or all black for worship services. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions about joining the CPC Orchestra
