MEASURING SUCCESS

As I enter my second year as the high school principal I cannot help but pause and reflect on the 2006-2007 school year as one of amazing accomplishment:

• Fifteen members of the Class of 2007 (82 students) scored a 30 or above on the ACT or an equivalent score on the SAT.
• 100% of the students passed the Calculus AB AP exam.
• 100% of the students passed the Calculus BC AP exam.
• 100% of the students passed the English Language AP exam.
• 100% of the students passed the Studio Art (Drawing) AP exam.
• 100% of the students passed the Studio Art (2D) AP exam last year.
• In Chemistry II AP, eight out of nine students taking the test scored a 3 (passing grade) or above.
• Last year five students were accepted into the Governor’s School Programs for the Academically Gifted and Talented.
• In 2007, CPA was the only school in the city with a finalist for the Civitan’s Moss Oliver Award in both Boy’s and Girl’s Basketball.
• A 2007 CPA graduate was one of six students in the nation in the area of photography to receive an invitation to the National Advanced for the Arts Talent Search Recognition Week in Miami, Florida. This same student was also the recipient of a Gold Key Award from the Scholastic Press Association.
• In 2007 CPA celebrated a National Merit Scholar.
• A CPA senior was the sole recipient of the Peyton Manning Scholarship.

However, I realize that while these accomplishments (and I only selected a few) are impressive, they are not our benchmark for success. This years senior’s will have an equally if not more impressive resume’, yet it will not define them.

At CPA we measure our success from a Christian worldview. This is what makes us unique as a school. In addition to the above accomplishments thousands of dollars were raised in student-led efforts for orphanages, rehabilitation centers, food and shelter programs. Most importantly these efforts enabled the Gospel of Christ to go from CPA to the ends of the earth. In addition, one-third of our school served on mission trips in the inner city of Nashville, Africa, Tecate, Southeast Asia, Belize, and the Ukraine.

At CPA we measure our success by how well we equip our students with Knowledge, so they can then lead our world with divine Wisdom and walk each day of their lives in His Truth…and in this pursuit we are experiencing success!
It is going to be a great year!

Soli Deo Gloria,
Nate Morrow, High School Principal
