Getting Out of the Way“Jesus looked at them and said, ‘With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.’” — Matthew 19:26
Have you ever felt called to do something so challenging that you did not think you could succeed? If so, did you have the courage to pursue that goal with every ounce of effort you had? Is it foolishness or faith when someone pursues a seemingly unattainable goal? I think the answer is determined by identifying who is making the goal.
Some of the greatest testimonies about God’s provision tell of overcoming great odds and seeing the impossible become possible. I believe God-sized goals provide critical lessons for us all. When we see a huge goal accomplished, goals that are larger than our own abilities, we see a fresh new view of God’s ever-present goodness. Of course, God is always present with us, but there are times when we cannot see Him because we are in the way. It is when we realize that a goal is bigger than us that we get to the end of ourselves and understand that we must depend on God.
So what are we doing that is so big that we need God’s strength, power, and wisdom? Our mission is to assist Christian families in helping students come to know God, evaluate all knowledge and all life by His truth, and live lives transformed by His truth for His glory. That mission is more than a school is capable of doing. To be successful in accomplishing that purpose, we have to realize that we are more than a school; we are a ministry.
Our calling is to help send the gospel of Jesus Christ to the utmost parts of the earth. The utmost parts of the earth may be geographic – Asia, Africa, Australia, etc. The utmost parts of the earth may be more local – and equally strategic. God has placed our graduates in hospitals, schools, professional athletics, network television, the home, businesses and every corner of society. Those vocations are some of the utmost parts of the earth. We are sending laborers to work for God’s harvest.
To accomplish this God-sized goal we need appropriate resources. In the coming months and years, we will be seeking additional buildings and facilities. These resources will be used to equip our students for the highest calling – to impact the world for the cause of Christ. We must not limit our sights to what we know we can accomplish in our own strength. Instead, we must get out of the way with our own limitations and rest on God’s provision and unlimited abilities.
