Vocal Music

VOCAL PERFORMANCE I — Fall
Grade Level: 9-12 — .5 Credit — Entry Level Course
This semester course is an introduction to singing in a mixed group. It focuses on part singing, basic musicianship and beginning theory. Music literature will include a variety of styles written in two and three-part harmony. Such styles will include pop, musical theatre, and classical music. It provides a solid introduction for the beginning singer as well as an opportunity to fine tune already existing skills. Students will participate in the fall vocal tour to the Biltmore Estate. Tour; itinerary costs will be available May 2005. Out of school rehearsal time will be required.

VOCAL PERFORMANCE II — Spring
Grade Level: 9-12 — .5 Credit —
Prerequisite: Vocal Performance I & Audition

This semester course is a continuation of Vocal Performance I. Music literature will include a variety of styles written in two and three-part harmony. Students will perform with Vision in the spring musical. Auditions will be held May 25 & 26. Out of school rehearsal time will be required.

VOCAL PERFORMANCE III / IV VISION
Grade Level: 10-12 — 1 Credit
Prerequisite: Audition and Vocal Performance I recommended

This year-long course is for mixed voices with advanced vocal ability, who possess the discipline necessary to excel in a college-preparatory choral program. A large quantity of music will be covered each semester. This class emphasizes advanced vocal production and proper singing techniques to be combined with choreography and drama. Music will include sacred, vocal jazz, popular, and show tunes to be performed throughout the year. Performance venues will include festivals/competitions, the Candlelight Christmas Tour at the Biltmore Estate and the spring musical. This course may be repeated for credit. Out of school rehearsal time will be required. There is an opening for one student to enter the class as a tour assistant in the first semester and an assistant director to the musical in the second semester. Tentative tour itineraries/costs and rehearsal schedules will be available at auditions.
Auditions will be held May 25 & 26 with callbacks, as needed, May 26.
