THEATRE I: INTRO TO THEATRE / Fall or Spring
Grade Level: 9-12 — .5 Credit — Entry Level
This is a beginning course designed to lay a foundation for theatre. Students will enjoy a survey exploration of theatre, including set design, lighting, sound, costumes, props, make-up, stage management, theatre history, and acting. Minimal required out-of-class production work. Class size is limited to 12.
THEATRE IIA: ACTING /Spring
Grade Level: 10-12 — .5 Credit — Prerequisite: Theatre I & Audition
This class is designed for students interested in a more in-depth performance experience. Students will produce a children‚s theatre piece and expand their skills as actors through various exercises, monologues and scene work. Focus will be on in-depth development of the character and the discovery of the character‚s actions within both comedic and dramatic scenes. There is an opening for one student to enter the class as an assistant director with permission of the instructor. This course may be repeated for credit.
THEATRE IIB: Stagecraft and Technical Theatre Fall or Spring
Grade Level: 10-12 .5 per semester
Prerequisite: Theatre I or Permission of Instructor
This hands-on course is designed to help students gain practical skills while exploring stage lighting, sound design, set construction and property design along with the many other creative elements necessary to a successful production. Students will visit a working scenery shop, learn to operate power tools and stage electronics, and function as a team to create sets and technical elements for various fine arts productions. Some out-of-class participation is required.
Class size limited to 8.
Students may take this practicum course all year and may repeat it for credit.
THEATRE III / IV
Grade Level: 10-12 — 1 Credit
Prerequisite: Theatre I & Audition (Theatre IIA recommended)
This performance class is designed for strongly committed students. In the fall semester, students will fine-tune theatre arts skills through a one-act play to be submitted to the TTA Festival in October and a mainstage production in December. Second semester will include a Coffeehouse Theatre performance as well as improvisation, monologue, scene work and a domain project. Out-of-school rehearsal time will be required. Tentative rehearsal schedule will be available at auditions. There is an opening for one student to enter the class as an assistant director with permission from the instructor. Students may repeat this class for credit. |
