Drew Maddux – Boys Head Coach

  • Graduated from Vanderbilt University, Bachelor of Science in Human & Organizational Development
  • 4-year starter for Vanderbilt Commodore Men’s Basketball Team
  • All-SEC Freshman, USA Olympic Festival Team, First Team ALL-SEC, Honorable Mention ALL-AMERICA honors, ALL-SEC Academic Team.
  • Recognized as Outstanding Young Man of America in 1998.
  • 3-time All-State Basketball Player while at Goodpasture High School
  • Acted as a volunteer Assistant Basketball Coach at Goodpasture High School
  • Head Coach of the HVAC Champion CPA Middle School Basketball Team, 2005-2006
  • In 2005, served as a college basketball television analyst for Comcast Sports, Fox Sports South and Affiliates of WB, UPN, and Fox throughout the Southeast. 
  • Served as co-host of his own radio show, “Basketball Saturday” on 104.5FM,”The Zone,” leading sports talk radio station in Nashville, Tennessee.

Mike Ellson – Girls Head Coach

  • Played division I football at San Diego State University
  • NFL tryouts with Philadelphia Eagles and San Francisco 49ers

  • San Diego HS Slam Dunk Champion 1988
  • 15years coaching experience at high school and college level (276-178)
  • Head college coach
  • 3 years division I coaching experience
  • Head coaching includes district championships, region championships, Sweet 16 appearances, sectional championships, final four appearances and 1 state championship game

Stephen Owens – Assistant Coach

  • In his 3rd year of coaching here at CPA
  • Graduated from First Assembly Christian School in 1991
  • A two-year starter in basketball
  • Has coached boys basketball, girls basketball, girls volleyball and assisted with football and girls softball 
  • Basketball coaching achievements as an assistant coach: Mississippi Private School Association 1-AA North District Champions (1999-2000), 1AA North State runner up (1999-2000)
  • College degrees from University of Memphis (‘99) and MTSU (‘04)
  • Wife – Lisa, Children – Zachary and Joshua
  • Least known fact about Coach Owens – In PAST years could perform a standing back flip and voted Most Spirited as a yell leader in high school.

Daniel Moore – Assistant Coach

  • In his 3rd year of coaching here at CPA
  • Graduated from CPA in 1993
  • Played five years of varsity basketball, was on CPA’s very first team.
  • Still holds record for most rebounds in a career (584) and ranks 2nd for most points (1,505)
  • Ranks in the top 10 in nine of the thirteen career statistical categories at CPA
  • All-District and All-Metro in 1993
  • College degrees from Taylor University (‘97) and Colorado Christian University (‘99)
  • Wife – Kara
  • Least known fact about Coach Moore – Sported a full afro in high school and did dunk one time in his life, during an intramural game in college.  (As the hair decreased, the vertical leap increased, although that formula isn’t still working.)
