DANCE: BALLROOM / Fall
Grade Level: 9-12
Students in this course will blend coordination, social interaction, creativity, and energy on the dance floor as they learn the Swing, Waltz, Fox-Trot, Cha-Cha, Rumba, Tango, and exemplary dances from the decades of the 1920’s-1980’s. Course work will include learning the dances and their steps, executing the dances with confidence, style, emotion and precision, and enjoying oneself in a dance environment. No previous dance ability required. Students may receive either a Fine Art or physical education credit for this course, but not both. Class size limited to 12 and an even number.

Course work will include learning the dances and their steps, executing the dances with confidence, style, emotion and precision, and enjoying oneself in a dance environment. It will be necessary to admit or drop students to ensure an even number.
DANCE: AEROBICS / Spring
Grade Level: 9-12 — .5 Credit
As an all-girls class, students will explore aerobic exercise and specifically aerobic dance as a way of staying fit. This class will work on aerobic endurance and strength building through various forms of activity such as aerobics, kickboxing, cycling, running and powerwalking. Students will learn basic principles of anatomy and kinesiology to lay a foundation for life-long habits of exercising through the art of dance. Students may receive either a Fine Art or physical education credit for this course, but not both. Class size is limited to 12.
DANCE: MODERN BALLET / Fall or Spring
Grade Level: 9-12
Students will engage in traditional studio class work in the styles of ballet and modern dance. Students will work on technique as well as elements of choreography. This course may count as either a fine art credit or physical education credit, but not as both.
(Students already on pointe may pursue it further in this class.) |
