Summer Arts Camps 2008

Fine Arts Camps - Spectacular Summer Fun!
CPA Fine Arts is pleased to offer a wide variety of fun summer adventures in the arts. All camps will be held on the CPA Campus and are open to the community. Invite a friend! Supplies and a daily snack are included in all camp costs. Grades levels listed are based on the 2008-2009 school year. ALL ARTS

Camp Imagination / All-Arts Camp

Every artist has a beginning. CPA’s All-Arts camp encourages children to delve into their imaginations as they learn about a wide variety of art expressions. Campers will participate in activities designed to unlock their imagination…including origami, improv games, orph instruments, story theatre, and more. This is an opportunity for your child to develop their God-given creativity in an atmosphere of fun and exploration.

VISUAL ARTS

Think it! See it! Create it! / Visual Arts Camp
Experience the visual arts through unique, hands-on projects and creative fun. Age-appropriate techniques are introduced through several different art mediums. Campers will experience multi-cultural art projects as well as projects that tie into pieces of children's literature as they explore drawing, painting, fabric art and more! A “Taste and See” art show will wrap up the week with the campers’ works displayed and refreshments served.

THEATRE

Curtain Up!
This camp is designed to bring out creativity, self-confidence and understanding in the art of performance. Disciplines of acting, monologue, scene study, production basics, costuming, and make-up will all be a focus. The students will apply what they have learned in a rehearsal setting as they prepare for a performance on the last day of the 2-week session.

All The World's A Stage
An action-packed exploration of the multi-faceted skills of theatre. Each day will provide the opportunity to create, perform, laugh and learn! Campers will gain a working knowledge of theatre production and will discover their own creative gifts through acting, scriptwriting, directing, set design, stage management, and more. Campers will present a Showcase Performance at the end of the week.

Story Theatre Presents…
Campers will work with elements of acting, movement and improv to create a narrative theatre ensemble piece, playing both storytellers and different roles. The campers will present a performance at 7:00 PM on July 11 for friends and family.

A DAY AT THE THEATRE
1-day and 2-day specialty workshops in the art of acting

“Better Move!”  2-Day Workshop
In this exploration of acting, campers will be introduced to stage movement through stage combat. Just like the famous fights of stage and screen, campers will learn how to choreograph and execute “fight” performances – for unarmed stage fights, and rapier and quarterstaff. Only the brave need apply!

“Shakespeare’s Ladies”  1-Day Workshop
A day for “Willful” Women! Some of the best scenes and monologues for actresses have come from the pen of William Shakespeare. This workshop provides skills and insights for ladies playing some of the Bard’s most famous characters. Comedic roles will be the main focus. Campers will get to work with both monologues and scenes.

“Improvmania”   1-Day Workshop
Learn how to hold your own in the improv ring! Improv is the genre seen in the popular show, “Whose Line Is It Anyway”? Learn the principals and skills that give you the edge in improv games, performances, and situations where you need to “think on your feet”! The last hour will be spent in Improv Olympics; team against team!

MUSIC

Band Blast
Rising 5th graders are invited to blast into band with this high-energy camp designed to transition players from 4th grade exploratory to full-fledged 5th Grade Band member. As campers play games, learn fun music and new techniques, they will receive a musical jump-start on the school year and make friends in the process.

Take 6! Band Camp

For rising 6th graders continuing in band or wanting to join band for the very first time, this camp is for YOU! You will have fun no matter your musical background. Take 6! Band Camp offers an exciting, fun atmosphere to get you prepared for the upcoming school year. Come have a blast in band, advance on your instrument, learn a new instrument, learn how to jazz improvise, have jam sessions…and so much more! The 6th grade Band always has a great time during the school year so get the good times started this summer! Three hours of fun, play, and music. Don’t miss out!

Jazz It Up! Advanced Band Camp
No matter your band experience, you will be amazed at how well you’ll be playing by the end of the week! Through jam sessions, jazz improv, working on your instrument or learning a new instrument, great music and lots of fun are the goal. You’ll explore music in ways that can’t be squeezed into the school day with some creative learning like DDR and Guitar Hero competitions to keep things exciting. Sign up for camp and you’re on your way to play like the pros!
